Madan Mitra Comes Under ED Scanner in Municipal Recruitment Probe
The Enforcement Directorate has conducted searches at multiple premises linked to Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra as part of its ongoing money laundering investigation into the alleged municipality recruitment scam. The operation marks the latest development in a probe that has drawn significant political attention in West Bengal.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday carried out searches at premises linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Madan Mitra in connection with its ongoing investigation into the alleged municipality recruitment scam.
According to officials, the central agency conducted raids at a total of seven locations associated with Mitra, who previously served as a minister in the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government.
The searches are part of the ED’s probe under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), aimed at tracing the alleged proceeds of crime linked to irregularities in municipal recruitment processes.

Madan Mitra currently represents the Kamarhati Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district and is one of the prominent leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state.
While officials have not disclosed the specific evidence being sought during the raids, the investigation is believed to focus on alleged financial transactions and the suspected laundering of funds connected to the recruitment process.
The municipality recruitment case has emerged as another politically sensitive investigation in West Bengal, following a series of probes into alleged irregularities in public appointments and recruitment practices.

There was no immediate response from Mitra regarding the searches at the time of reporting. The Trinamool Congress has, in the past, alleged that central investigative agencies are being selectively used against opposition leaders, while the ED maintains that its actions are based solely on evidence and legal procedures.
The agency is expected to examine documents, digital records, and other materials recovered during the searches to determine whether further action is warranted.
As the investigation progresses, the case is likely to remain under close public and political scrutiny given Mitra’s prominence in West Bengal politics and the broader implications of the alleged recruitment scam.
