Rajnath Singh Meets Vietnam President, Strengthens Strategic Partnership
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Vietnamese President Tô Lâm in Hanoi and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening defence cooperation under the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit witnessed key discussions on maritime security, defence technology, artificial intelligence, and regional stability, along with the signing of a new agreement on AI and quantum technology cooperation.
Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called on Tô Lâm in Hanoi and reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation between the two countries.
In a statement shared on social media, the Defence Minister said defence cooperation remains a key pillar of the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam. He highlighted that the bilateral relationship is built on mutual trust, shared values, and close collaboration in defence, security, and regional stability.

During his visit, Rajnath Singh also held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Defence Minister Phan Van Giang. Both leaders reviewed the expanding India-Vietnam defence partnership and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation in maritime security, defence industry collaboration, military training, and Indo-Pacific regional stability.
As part of the visit, the two ministers jointly inaugurated a Language Lab established at the Air Force Officers College in Vietnam, aimed at enhancing defence education and training cooperation between the two nations.
India and Vietnam also exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of artificial intelligence and quantum technology. Officials described the agreement as another important milestone in the growing strategic and technological partnership between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh paid tribute to former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum on the occasion of his 136th birth anniversary. The Defence Minister praised Ho Chi Minh’s vision, leadership, and commitment to national liberation and international solidarity.
Singh stated that the India-Vietnam friendship continues to remain rooted in shared democratic values, mutual respect, and long-standing cooperation across multiple sectors.
The visit comes amid growing strategic engagement between India and Vietnam in the Indo-Pacific region, with both countries increasingly focusing on defence modernisation, maritime security, and emerging technologies.
