Lakshadweep Promotes Space Science Learning Through Sriharikota Tour
Administration launches unique educational initiative to promote scientific learning and space awareness among island students
The Department of Science and Technology of the Lakshadweep Administration has organised the first-ever “Sriharikota Scientific Educational Study Tour” for selected students from schools across the islands, officials said on Sunday.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Lakshadweep Astronomy Club, which selected 21 students through an online aptitude examination focused on astronomy, space science, analytical ability, scientific reasoning, and technical awareness.
The selected students were taken on an educational tour to Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, one of India’s most important centres for satellite launches and space research activities.
According to a statement issued by the administration, the programme was designed to encourage scientific curiosity, research-oriented thinking, and technological awareness among students from the island region.
Officials said the initiative offered students direct exposure to modern scientific infrastructure and real-world applications of science and technology, helping them better understand developments in the space sector and related fields.
The administration described the programme as an important step towards nurturing future scientists, engineers, and researchers from Lakshadweep by creating opportunities for experiential learning beyond classrooms.
Students participating in the tour reportedly interacted with experts and gained insights into India’s space missions, launch systems, and scientific advancements.
