India and Nordic Countries Expand Ties in Technology and Sustainability
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India and the Nordic nations have decided to strengthen bilateral ties through a new Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership.
The announcement was made during a joint media briefing after the third India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo. Leaders from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, and Denmark participated in the summit discussions alongside the Indian Prime Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the partnership would combine the technological expertise and sustainability-focused innovations of Nordic countries with India’s skilled workforce and expanding economy to develop solutions for global challenges.
He highlighted that the collaboration would integrate Iceland’s expertise in geothermal energy and fisheries, Norway’s strengths in the blue economy and Arctic research, and broader Nordic leadership in maritime technology and sustainability with India’s capabilities.

The Prime Minister also stated that Sweden’s advanced manufacturing and defence technology, Finland’s telecom and digital innovation, and Denmark’s expertise in cybersecurity and health technology would be linked with India’s talent pool to build trusted global solutions.
Mr Modi noted that the India-Nordic cooperation framework was established eight years ago to strengthen relations and provide new momentum to bilateral engagement. He said trade between India and the Nordic region has increased nearly fourfold over the last decade.
According to the Prime Minister, investments from Nordic countries into India have risen by nearly 200 per cent during the same period, contributing significantly to India’s economic growth while also creating employment opportunities in Nordic nations.

The Prime Minister further highlighted recent trade initiatives aimed at deepening economic ties. He referred to the implementation of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with Norway, Iceland, and other European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries from October 2025.
He also mentioned the recently signed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which includes Denmark, Finland, and Sweden as partners. Modi described these agreements as the beginning of a “new golden age” in relations between India and Nordic countries.
The summit focused on green energy, innovation, sustainability, digital technology, maritime cooperation, and strategic economic partnerships as both sides seek stronger collaboration in emerging sectors.
