Ballistic Missile Defence Success Boosts India’s Strategic Preparedness
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated the DRDO for successfully conducting three consecutive flight tests demonstrating India’s advanced multi-layered ballistic missile defence and anti-ship strike capabilities. The achievement places India among a select group of countries capable of intercepting threats ranging from ballistic missiles to intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully carrying out three consecutive flight tests showcasing India’s growing capabilities in multi-layered ballistic missile defence and anti-ship warfare.
In a post on social media, Singh said the successful tests have placed India among an elite group of nations possessing Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) capabilities capable of engaging threats ranging from ballistic missiles to Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
The Defence Minister noted that the trials demonstrated several critical technologies that significantly strengthen the country’s ability to counter a wide spectrum of aerial and maritime threats.
According to Singh, the multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence system functioned as intended, with the interceptor missiles successfully tracking and neutralising their designated targets during the tests.
He said the achievement reflected India’s growing technological prowess in developing indigenous defence systems designed to protect the nation against emerging missile threats.
“DRDO has successfully demonstrated multiple crucial technologies bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities against different types of enemy threats,” the Minister said.
The successful trials underscore the effectiveness of India’s layered defence architecture, which is designed to provide multiple opportunities to intercept hostile missiles before they can reach their intended targets.
Rajnath Singh further highlighted the demonstration of India’s anti-ship defence capability at medium range through the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR).
The missile system is expected to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Indian Navy by enabling precision engagement of hostile naval assets at significant distances.
The Defence Minister emphasised that these advanced systems have been designed and developed using the latest technologies, ensuring preparedness against evolving security challenges in an increasingly complex strategic environment.
The successful tests mark another milestone in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing and indigenous technological development, in line with the government’s broader objective of strengthening national security through home-grown capabilities.
Defence analysts believe the demonstrated capabilities will considerably enhance India’s strategic deterrence and improve its readiness to respond to diverse threats across multiple domains.
