Diamond Harbour FC produced a stunning comeback performance to defeat Rajasthan United FC 5-2 in the Indian Football League Championship on Friday, boosting their hopes of securing the league title.
Rajasthan United appeared firmly in control during the opening stages of the match after Gerard Artigas scored twice in the fifth and 27th minutes to hand his side an early two-goal advantage.
However, the match turned dramatically as Diamond Harbour launched an aggressive comeback before halftime.
Kevin Ademola reduced the deficit in the 40th minute before the Kolkata-based side dominated the second half.
Hugo Diaz Rodriguez equalised in the 47th minute, and Kevin Ademola added another goal in the 53rd minute to put Diamond Harbour ahead.
The visitors’ defensive struggles continued as Wahengbam Angousana Luwang scored in the 88th minute before Hugo Diaz Rodriguez completed his brace with another goal in stoppage time.
The victory lifted Diamond Harbour FC to 28 points from 12 matches, strengthening their position at the top of the league table and bringing them closer to the championship title.
The result also highlighted the attacking strength and resilience of the Kolkata side, who overturned a difficult start with a dominant second-half display.
