Mamata Banerjee Alleges “Voter Infiltration” Conspiracy Ahead of 2026 Polls

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a blistering attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the opposition of orchestrating a “voter infiltration” scheme to manipulate the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking at a massive “Jana Sanjog” rally in Paschim Medinipur today, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo claimed that thousands of individuals from neighboring states—specifically citing Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan—are being illegally registered in West Bengal’s electoral rolls.

Banerjee stated that her party’s internal monitoring cell flagged nearly 30,000 suspicious voter registration forms submitted in a single day across various districts. She characterized this as a strategic attempt by the BJP to dilute the local mandate and disenfranchise genuine residents, particularly women and minority communities who have been traditional TMC supporters. “They cannot win the hearts of Bengal, so they are trying to import votes,” she told the crowd.

The Chief Minister also directed her criticism toward the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging that the “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of the voter list is being weaponized to favor the saffron party. She urged local block-level officers and residents to remain vigilant against any “outsiders” attempting to verify residency during the door-to-door survey. The BJP has dismissed these claims as “baseless paranoia,” arguing that the revision is a standard constitutional process meant to ensure a clean and transparent election. This escalating war of words sets a high-tension tone for the election season, as both sides prepare for a grueling campaign.
