Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has directed authorities in West Bengal to immediately arrest those involved in incidents of post-poll violence and vandalism.

The directive from the Election Commission of India came after two people were reportedly killed in violence linked to the aftermath of the Assembly election results, while several political party offices were vandalised across the state.

According to officials, the CEC instructed the state chief secretary, director general of police, Kolkata police commissioner, senior district officials, and central armed police forces to maintain continuous patrolling in sensitive areas and ensure strict law and order measures.

Security arrangements have been intensified to prevent further clashes and restore normalcy in affected regions.

The Commission emphasized the need for swift action to ensure peace and uphold democratic order following the elections.
