Campaigning Ends in Tamil Nadu and Bengal Phase 1 Ahead of April 23 Polling

Campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 and the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 ended this evening ahead of polling scheduled on April 23.

In West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed rallies in Kulti and Siliguri, while BJP leader Rekha Gupta joined a roadshow in Asansol. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a public meeting in Haldia. Congress, Left parties, and others also campaigned across the state.

The Election Commission of India has directed district officials and police authorities to strictly enforce the silence period under the Representation of the People Act. The second phase of polling in West Bengal will be held on April 29.

In Tamil Nadu, Union Minister Piyush Goyal campaigned during the final day. Edappadi K. Palaniswami addressed a meeting in Salem, while Vijay campaigned in Chennai.

A total of 5,73,43,291 voters are eligible to cast their votes in Tamil Nadu’s single-phase election.

Counting of votes for all polling states and union territories will take place on May 4.
