In a major political turning point for West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath on Saturday as the state’s first chief minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground in the heart of Kolkata, a venue historically associated with large political mobilisations and public rallies in the state.

The BJP registered a landmark electoral victory in the recently concluded assembly elections by winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, bringing an end to the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee.

The TMC was reduced to 80 seats in one of the most significant political shifts in the state’s recent history.

The oath-taking ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, senior BJP leaders and thousands of party workers from across Bengal.

Security arrangements have been significantly tightened across Kolkata ahead of the event, with special traffic regulations, drone restrictions and large-scale police deployment around the venue.
