100 Crude Bombs Recovered Ahead of Bengal Polls
Election Commission of India on Sunday directed police to launch a special drive against those involved in the illegal manufacture of crude bombs in poll-bound West Bengal.
A senior poll official said the Commission also asserted that all cases related to the making of such explosives would be investigated by the National Investigation Agency.
The directive followed the recovery of around 100 crude bombs from the house of a person allegedly linked to the All India Trinamool Congress in Bhangar, just days before the second and final phase of the Assembly elections.
Officials said the explosives were recovered during a search operation at the residence of Rafikul Islam based on specific intelligence inputs.
The Election Commission has been tightening security and enforcement measures ahead of polling to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election process.
The latest move comes amid heightened political tension and concerns over poll-related violence in the state.
