Relief Package Announced After Moonidih Washery Incident

Agreement reached after talks with families, unions, and administration following Moonidih washery tragedy

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has agreed to provide ₹20 lakh compensation and a job to the dependents of victims who died after being buried under coal slurry at the Moonidih Coal Washery in Dhanbad.

According to Arindam Mustafi, the decision was taken after a late-night meeting involving BCCL officials, victims’ families, workers’ union representatives, the private contractor responsible for slurry clearance, and the district administration.

As per the agreement, ₹20 lakh will be paid in two instalments—₹10 lakh each by BCCL and the delivery order holder. Additionally, one dependent from each affected family will be offered employment through an outsourced agency.

The agreement also includes ₹75,000 assistance for last rites of the deceased.
