PM Modi Greets Indians on 80th Independence Day, Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Independence Day greetings to citizens, paid tribute to freedom fighters and said India, powered by 140 crore people, is continuing its journey towards faster growth and a developed nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended greetings to the people of India on the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day and remembered the freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifices brought an end to colonial rule.
In a message shared on X, Modi expressed gratitude to the countless freedom fighters whose commitment and determination helped secure India’s independence. He said their dreams and ideals continue to inspire the country’s efforts to build a “Viksit Bharat”.
The Prime Minister highlighted the contribution of citizens to India’s development, saying that the country is being powered by 140 crore Indians and is reaching new milestones across different sectors.
Modi expressed hope that India’s development journey would continue at an even faster pace in the coming years. His message placed emphasis on collective participation and the aspirations of citizens as the country works towards its long-term development goals.
India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026. The main celebrations are being held at the Red Fort in New Delhi, where Modi is leading the national ceremony. This year’s celebrations also highlight the contribution of Yuva Shakti to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The 2026 ceremony also marks a special occasion with “Vande Mataram” being rendered at the Red Fort as part of the Independence Day celebrations for the first time, alongside the traditional flag-hoisting and national anthem.
