Labour Agitation Escalates Briefly in Uttarakhand’s Nainital

Tension prevailed in the Motahaldu area of Nainital on Monday after hundreds of employees of a private company went on strike over various demands, leading to a confrontation between protesters and police.

Officials said heavy police deployment has been made at the site to prevent any untoward incident, while workers continue their sit-in protest at the gates of the industrial unit.

According to witnesses, arguments broke out between police personnel and some youth leaders who had arrived in support of the workers. The situation quickly escalated into a scuffle, following which police used mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the protest continues.
