Indian Army Procurement Trials Boost Private Defence Manufacturing
Nibe Limited has successfully conducted firing demonstrations of its indigenous ‘Suryastra’ rockets at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, marking a significant development for India’s defence capabilities. The rockets, with strike ranges of 150 km and 300 km, reportedly achieved highly precise accuracy levels during trials conducted as part of a procurement order from the Indian Army.
In a significant boost to India’s defence preparedness and indigenous military manufacturing, Nibe Limited has successfully carried out firing demonstrations of its ‘Suryastra’ rocket systems at the Integrated Test Range Chandipur.
According to officials, the demonstrations involved rockets with strike ranges of 150 kilometres and 300 kilometres, both of which reportedly performed with high levels of precision during the trials.
The company stated that the rockets achieved a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 1.5 metres and 2 metres respectively, indicating a strong level of targeting accuracy during the firing exercises.
The successful trials were conducted as part of a procurement order placed by the Indian Army with the company, reflecting increasing participation of the private sector in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Defence experts note that CEP is a key indicator of the accuracy of missile and rocket systems, and lower CEP values indicate greater precision in hitting intended targets.
The tests are being viewed as a major step in strengthening indigenous long-range precision strike capabilities under India’s broader push for defence self-reliance and domestic military production.
The Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha is one of India’s key defence testing facilities and has hosted multiple missile and weapons trials conducted by defence agencies and private sector companies.
The development comes amid growing emphasis on advanced indigenous weapon systems, long-range artillery capability, and technological modernisation of the Indian armed forces.
