Zero Tolerance for Admission-Related Extortion, Says Higher Education Minister
West Bengal Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay has said the state government will adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards extortion, intimidation, bullying and ragging during the admission process in colleges and universities, with a focus on preventing corruption.
The West Bengal government will follow a “zero tolerance” policy towards extortion and other forms of misconduct during the admission process at colleges and universities, Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme, Chattopadhyay said the government is determined to eliminate attempts at corruption during admissions. He stressed that students should not face pressure, intimidation or financial demands while seeking admission to educational institutions.
The minister specifically said the government would act against attempts to bully, intimidate, rag or extort students during the admission process. The announcement comes as the state seeks to ensure that college and university admissions remain transparent and free from coercion or unlawful financial demands.
