West Bengal Police Rescue 12 from Food Unit, 10 Allegedly Minors
Police have rescued 12 people, including 10 minors, from a food manufacturing unit in Uttar Dinajpur district, where the children were allegedly engaged in making cakes, biscuits and cream rolls and working for long hours.
Twelve people, including 10 minors, were rescued from a food manufacturing unit in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal, police said on Wednesday.
According to a police officer, the rescued boys, most of whom were from Jharkhand, were allegedly employed at the unit to make cakes, biscuits and cream rolls. They were reportedly working for 12 to 15 hours a day.
Of the 12 people rescued, one was below 14 years of age, while nine were between 14 and 17 years old. The remaining two were above 18 years of age, the officer said.
The rescue operation has brought attention to the alleged employment of minors in a food manufacturing facility and the long working hours they were reportedly made to endure.
