West Bengal Government Focuses on Religious Tourism and Pilgrim Facilities
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and visitor facilities at some of the state’s most prominent religious destinations. The plans include modernization of pilgrimage centres, development of Ganga Sagar Mela to international standards, and improved arrangements for major religious gatherings.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a comprehensive plan to upgrade infrastructure and facilities at several major religious and pilgrimage destinations across the state, including the renowned Dakshineswar Kali Temple and Kalighat Kali Temple.
Speaking at a programme in Kolkata, the chief minister said work has already begun to elevate the Ganga Sagar Mela to international standards. The initiative aims to improve infrastructure, accessibility, sanitation, and visitor amenities at one of India’s largest religious gatherings, which attracts pilgrims from across the country and abroad.
Adhikari also announced plans to significantly enhance facilities at Dakshineswar and Kalighat, two of the most revered Hindu temples in eastern India. The proposed upgrades are expected to focus on improving pilgrim convenience, crowd management, connectivity, and the overall visitor experience.
Additionally, the chief minister said grand arrangements would be made for the upcoming Srabani Mela at Tarakeshwar Temple, a major pilgrimage event that draws thousands of devotees each year.
During his address, Adhikari criticized the previous administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress, alleging that the state had experienced a lack of employment opportunities, widespread corruption, and inadequate development over the past 15 years. He further claimed that appeasement politics had overshadowed governance and economic progress.
The chief minister asserted that his government has restored law and order and emphasized that closer coordination between the state and the Centre would accelerate development. He highlighted several central government projects underway in West Bengal, which he said would contribute to improved infrastructure, increased investment, and greater employment opportunities.
Describing West Bengal as a land of deep spiritual significance, Adhikari said the state is entering a new phase focused on development, religious tourism, investment, and improved public services.
