West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday announced that railway projects worth approximately ₹1 lakh crore are expected to be implemented across the state over the coming years. The announcement followed a high-level meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw aimed at reviewing and accelerating key infrastructure initiatives.

Addressing a joint press conference at Nabanna, Adhikari directed district magistrates to prepare a detailed calendar for the acquisition and handover of land required for various railway projects. The move is intended to ensure timely execution and avoid delays that have affected several infrastructure projects in the past.

The chief minister highlighted what he described as improved relations between the state government and the Centre, saying that stronger coordination would help fast-track pending railway initiatives. According to him, enhanced cooperation between the two governments has created a favourable environment for large-scale investments in rail infrastructure.

Adhikari also contrasted the current situation with that of the previous administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress, stating that strained relations between the state and the Centre had previously slowed railway development in West Bengal. He expressed confidence that the new political climate would remove obstacles and facilitate faster implementation of projects.

The proposed investments are expected to strengthen railway connectivity, improve passenger and freight transportation, and contribute to economic growth across the state. Railway expansion and modernization projects are also anticipated to generate employment opportunities and support regional development.

The meeting between the state government and the Railway Ministry signals a renewed push to enhance transportation infrastructure in West Bengal, with authorities now focusing on land availability and project execution timelines to ensure smooth progress.
