Petrol and diesel prices were sharply increased across major Indian cities on Sunday, continuing the recent upward trend in fuel rates amid elevated global crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

In New Delhi, petrol prices rose by ₹2.61 per litre to reach ₹102.12, while diesel prices increased by ₹2.71 per litre to ₹95.20 per litre.

The latest Retail Selling Prices (RSP) announced for the four metro cities are as follows:

Petrol Prices

  • New Delhi – ₹102.12 (+₹2.61)
  • Kolkata – ₹113.51 (+₹2.87)
  • Mumbai – ₹111.21 (+₹2.72)
  • Chennai – ₹107.77 (+₹2.46)

Diesel Prices

  • New Delhi – ₹95.20 (+₹2.71)
  • Kolkata – ₹99.82 (+₹2.80)
  • Mumbai – ₹97.83 (+₹2.81)
  • Chennai – ₹99.55 (+₹2.57)

The sharp increase follows multiple fuel price revisions in recent days as state-owned oil marketing companies continue to pass on higher international energy costs to consumers.

Analysts attribute the rise to surging crude oil prices, tightening refining margins, and currency fluctuations triggered by geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia. Higher fuel prices are expected to have a cascading impact on transportation costs, logistics and inflationary pressures across sectors.
