Bengal CM Says ‘Double-Engine’ Governance Will Boost State’s Development
Marking 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the Prime Minister’s commitment to public service and inclusive development has transformed the nation. He asserted that a “double-engine” government would ensure Bengal receives the full benefits of central welfare initiatives and accelerated growth.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday asserted that the state has begun experiencing the benefits of a “double-engine” government, stating that the impact of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state would become increasingly visible in the coming years.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Adhikari said that his government would continue to function under the leadership, guidance, and blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while focusing on implementing developmental initiatives and strengthening national security.
“We will work under Modi ji’s leadership and guidance. Even in this short period, we have already accomplished some work. The public has started to see the benefits of the ‘double-engine’ government, and these benefits will become even more apparent in the days to come,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of national security, Adhikari stated that the state government had expedited the transfer of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to facilitate border infrastructure projects.
According to him, the handover process is continuing on a daily basis, and land covering approximately 100 kilometres has already been transferred. He noted that fencing work has commenced in areas of North Bengal adjacent to the strategically important “Chicken’s Neck” corridor, also known as the Siliguri Corridor, which connects the northeastern states with the rest of India.
“As you have seen, we are committed to completing this in a time-bound manner. After all, it is a matter of national security,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the implementation of initiatives that, according to him, had remained stalled in the state for years. These included the census process and the rollout of major welfare schemes supported by the Centre.
He announced that an agreement worth ₹39,000 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission had been signed to strengthen drinking water infrastructure across the state.
Adhikari further said that the agreement relating to Ayushman Bharat had been finalised in Delhi and that approximately 1.43 crore families had been identified as beneficiaries eligible to receive Ayushman Bharat health cards, enabling access to financial protection for medical treatment.
He also highlighted the adoption of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Scheme, which aims to provide rooftop solar solutions and reduce electricity expenses for economically weaker households.
According to Adhikari, these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to combining welfare, infrastructure development, and national priorities while working towards broader goals of inclusive growth and improved public services.
