A 13-year-old hearing-impaired boy, who had been missing from his home in West Bengal for nearly two years, was reunited with his family on Friday with the assistance of a government-run shelter home in Uttar Pradesh, according to an official statement.

Officials said that when the boy was finally handed over to his family members, who had travelled from West Bengal, the reunion turned emotional. The family expressed gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government and the authorities involved in tracing and caring for the child.

According to the statement, the boy had been admitted to Rajkiya Bal Grah located on Mohan Road in Lucknow on September 12, 2025, following directions issued by the Child Welfare Committee Meerut.

During his stay at the shelter home, officials and welfare authorities reportedly worked to identify and locate his family. Their efforts eventually led to successful communication with the family members in West Bengal, enabling the child’s safe return home.

The incident highlights the role played by child welfare institutions and rehabilitation systems in assisting vulnerable children, particularly those with disabilities, and reuniting them with their families after prolonged separation.
