UNESCO Heritage Site Valley of Flowers Welcomes Tourists for New Season
The renowned Valley of Flowers National Park in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district has reopened to visitors for the season. Home to hundreds of rare and vibrant flowering plants, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is expected to attract nature enthusiasts, trekkers, and biodiversity researchers from across the country and abroad.
The spectacular Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in the Himalayas, has officially reopened to tourists for the 2026 season. Located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, the valley is one of India’s most celebrated natural attractions and a major destination for eco-tourism.
Officials from the Forest Department have appealed to visitors to actively support conservation efforts and help protect the fragile ecosystem that makes the valley globally significant. Tourists have been urged to follow environmental guidelines and avoid activities that may harm the region’s unique biodiversity.

According to the department, the valley currently hosts more than 300 species of flowering plants, including several rare and endemic varieties found only in the Himalayan region. During the monsoon season, the landscape transforms into a colorful carpet of blooming flowers, attracting botanists, photographers, and nature lovers.
Forest Range Officer Chetna Kandpal stated that the Valley of Flowers will remain open to visitors until October 31, providing a limited seasonal window for tourists to experience its natural beauty.
Situated at a high altitude amid challenging terrain, the valley requires visitors to undertake a trek through mountainous landscapes. Given the region’s unpredictable weather and difficult geographical conditions, authorities are issuing safety guidelines to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all travelers.

Recognized globally for its exceptional biodiversity, the Valley of Flowers is also home to numerous medicinal plants and supports a variety of wildlife species. Its reopening is expected to boost tourism in Uttarakhand while reinforcing the importance of preserving one of India’s most treasured ecological habitats.
Visitors planning a trip are advised to monitor weather updates, follow forest department instructions, and adhere to conservation rules to help protect the delicate Himalayan ecosystem for future generations.
