The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast severe heatwave conditions in several parts of the country today, particularly across northern and central India.

According to the weather agency, severe heatwave conditions are likely over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, and the Vidarbha region. Heatwave conditions are also expected in parts of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, West Madhya Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD further stated that hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha during the daytime.

In addition, warm night conditions are expected in parts of Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha, potentially adding to discomfort levels for residents in these areas.

While heatwave conditions dominate much of the country, the IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Thunderstorms and lightning activity are likely in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, and several parts of Northeast India.

The weather department has advised people in heatwave-affected areas to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
