Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Coastal and Northeastern Regions
The India Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rainfall across several regions over the next few days as the southwest monsoon continues its advance. While many states are expected to receive heavy showers, parts of northern and central India are likely to remain under heatwave conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country over the next two to three days as the Southwest Monsoon continues to advance.
According to the weather agency, favourable atmospheric conditions exist for the monsoon to progress further into the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, parts of Telangana, the remaining areas of Tamil Nadu, the Southwest and North Bay of Bengal, and the Northeastern states during the next few days.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, West Bengal‘s sub-Himalayan region, and Sikkim. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and the Northeastern region.
Despite the advancing monsoon, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in several parts of north and central India. The IMD has issued heatwave warnings for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan (western parts), and Coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next four days.
Meteorologists have also indicated that maximum temperatures across northwest and central India could rise by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius during the next three days before the monsoon influence becomes more widespread.
The contrasting weather pattern highlights India’s seasonal transition period, with monsoon rains bringing relief to some regions while intense summer heat continues to affect others. Authorities have advised residents in rainfall-prone areas to remain alert for localized flooding and those in heatwave-affected regions to take precautions against extreme temperatures.
