Gangotri Dham Portals to Open on Akshaya Tritiya, Char Dham Yatra Begins Tomorrow

The portals of Gangotri Dham will officially open for devotees tomorrow on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, marking the beginning of the 2026 Char Dham Yatra alongside Yamunotri.

Ahead of the opening, the ceremonial doli procession of Maa Ganga departed at 12:15 PM from her winter abode in Mukhba for Gangotri Dham, with an overnight halt scheduled at Daranghati. Priest Ashok Semwal said prayers and rituals for the departure began earlier in the morning, while devotees from across India and abroad have already started arriving for the auspicious occasion.

The atmosphere in the region turned festive as traditional ceremonies began, with an Army band also joining the celebrations to bid farewell to Maa Ganga during the sacred journey to Gangotri.
