Chowna Mein on Sunday congratulated NHPC on the successful commissioning of Unit 4 of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, describing it as an important step towards India’s clean and self-reliant energy future.

With the addition of the newly commissioned 250 MW unit, the total operational capacity of the project has now reached 1,000 MW, marking another major milestone in one of India’s largest hydropower ventures.

Mein, who also oversees the power and hydropower departments in Arunachal Pradesh, praised the engineers, technical teams, workers, and stakeholders involved in the project for their commitment and sustained efforts.

He said the development would contribute significantly to strengthening the country’s renewable energy capacity while supporting environmentally sustainable power generation.

The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is considered a strategically important infrastructure initiative for the northeastern region and India’s broader energy security goals.

Officials believe the expansion of hydropower generation through projects like Subansiri will help meet rising electricity demand while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
