24×7 Monitoring Begins as Kerala Prepares for Monsoon Season

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed eight rescue teams across various districts of Kerala as part of operational preparedness for the Southwest Monsoon 2026.

The deployment was carried out following a request from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), with the teams mobilised by the 4th Battalion of the NDRF.

According to officials, each team consists of 30 trained rescuers equipped to respond to floods, landslides, waterlogging, and other monsoon-related emergencies.

The teams have been stationed in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad.

Authorities stated that a 24×7 control room established at Arakkonam is continuously monitoring the situation in coordination with Kerala’s State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). The monitoring system is tracking weather updates and coordinating rapid emergency responses if required.

Kerala, which frequently experiences heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides during the southwest monsoon season, has intensified disaster preparedness efforts in recent years following several severe monsoon-related incidents.

Officials said the early deployment of rescue teams is intended to ensure faster response times and improve coordination among disaster management agencies, local administrations, and emergency services.

The southwest monsoon is expected to advance over Kerala in the coming weeks, and authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official advisories issued by weather and disaster management agencies.
