Accused held in Vijayawada; incident reportedly took place after victim was misled during heavy rush

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Vijayawada have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with an alleged sexual assault onboard Train No. 17015, the Visakha Express.

The accused, identified as Saurav Bagdi, is a native of Bankura district in West Bengal and was working as a bedroll attendant under a private contractor on the train.

According to police, the incident occurred amid heavy passenger rush when a couple was unable to find seats. The accused allegedly took advantage of the situation by misleading the husband and escorting the woman to his cabin, where the assault reportedly took place.

GRP officials acted swiftly following the complaint and apprehended the accused. An investigation is underway, and authorities are examining further details related to the incident.

The case has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the conduct of contractual staff on long-distance trains, with calls for stricter monitoring and accountability within railway services.
