CBI Arrests CGHS Additional Director, Aide in ₹50,000 Bribery Trap
Private assistant caught red-handed in Meerut; separate LPG black-marketing case sees ₹28 lakh fine
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Additional Director of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, along with her private assistant in connection with a bribery case.
According to the agency, a case was registered on April 30 after allegations surfaced that a bribe of ₹80,000 was being demanded for facilitating the transfer of a CGHS employee from Moradabad to Meerut. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap during which the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹50,000.
The private assistant was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of the Additional Director. Both individuals have since been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate development, a CBI court has imposed a fine of ₹28 lakh in a case related to black marketing of LPG cylinders at inflated prices. The case, registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, dates back to 2010.
The court, presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neetu Nagar, sentenced the accused—Vanita Ghosh and Kapil Gupta—till the rising of the court and imposed fines on both individuals as well as their firm. An additional penalty of ₹26 lakh was levied to account for wrongful gains and losses to the government exchequer.
The developments highlight ongoing efforts by investigative agencies to curb corruption and illegal profiteering in essential services.
