Subscribers With Nine SIMs to Be Barred From Getting Additional Connections
The Department of Telecommunications has directed telecom companies to prevent subscribers who already have nine SIM cards registered in their name from obtaining additional mobile connections from August 24.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed telecom operators to deny new mobile connections to subscribers who already have nine SIM cards registered in their name, according to an official circular.
Telecom service providers have been asked to put in place the necessary technical and organisational measures from August 24 to identify subscribers attempting to obtain connections beyond the prescribed limit and prevent them from acquiring additional SIM cards.
The DoT has instructed operators to use the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) for implementing the measure. The platform contains subscriber information uploaded by telecom companies, including details of individuals who have already reached the permitted limit.
From August 23, a representative image of each subscriber who has reached the prescribed limit will also be made available on the DIP. The department said the measure will help telecom operators identify subscribers seeking additional mobile connections and ensure compliance with the permitted limit.
