Christopher Luxon has announced that New Zealand is signing a free trade agreement with India, describing it as a landmark deal that will open one of the world’s biggest markets to Kiwi exporters.

In a video message, Luxon said the agreement would provide New Zealand businesses with unprecedented access to India’s 1.4 billion consumers and an economy expected to become the world’s third largest.

He said the deal would place New Zealand exporters on an equal or better footing than international competitors and create major opportunities in India’s rapidly expanding middle-class market.

The agreement is being described by New Zealand as a once-in-a-generation economic partnership aimed at boosting trade, exports, and long-term strategic ties.

The development is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between India and New Zealand while expanding cooperation in goods, services, and investment.
