Coal Ministry to Launch 15th Commercial Coal Mine Auction

The Ministry of Coal is set to launch the 15th round of commercial coal mine auctions on Friday, alongside a stakeholder consultation in Mumbai aimed at strengthening private sector participation in India’s coal production sector amid growing energy demand.

The consultation will bring together industry leaders, investors, and state government representatives to deliberate on auction procedures, mining reforms, and emerging opportunities under the commercial coal block framework.

The latest tranche marks another major step in the government’s coal sector liberalisation initiative launched in 2020, under which 14 previous auction rounds have already offered more than 100 coal blocks and attracted substantial private investment, supporting efforts to enhance domestic coal output and energy security.
