Gupta to Lead Operations and Expansion of Kolkata Metro
Senior railway officer Prem Sagar Gupta has been appointed as the new General Manager of Metro Railway Kolkata, officials announced on Friday.
Gupta brings extensive administrative and technical experience to the role. Prior to his latest appointment, he was serving as Executive Director (Corporate Coordination) in the Indian Railways system.
An accomplished academic, Gupta completed his MTech from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), where he graduated as a topper. He also holds an MPhil degree from the National Defence College (NDC).

His appointment comes at a time when Metro Railway Kolkata continues to expand and modernize its network to meet the growing transportation needs of the city and surrounding areas.
As General Manager, Gupta will oversee the operation, maintenance, expansion projects, safety initiatives, and overall administration of India’s first metro railway system. Metro Railway Kolkata plays a crucial role in the urban transportation network of the metropolitan region, serving millions of commuters annually.

Railway officials expect Gupta’s technical expertise and management experience to contribute to improving operational efficiency, infrastructure development, and passenger services.
The appointment is part of the ongoing leadership changes within Indian Railways aimed at strengthening management and supporting modernization efforts across the country’s transport network.
