Mamata Banerjee Fights to Hold TMC Together Following Legislative Revolt
Facing the first split in the Trinamool Congress’s 28-year history, party supremo Mamata Banerjee has launched an intensive effort to prevent further defections, personally contacting rebel legislators amid a growing internal crisis.
Mamata Banerjee has begun an active campaign to contain unrest within the All India Trinamool Congress following the first major split in the party’s 28-year history.
According to party sources, Banerjee has personally reached out to several legislators over the past two days in an effort to prevent further defections and restore unity within the party ranks.
The outreach reportedly included MLAs from districts such as Howrah, Murshidabad, and North Dinajpur, some of whom were seen attending meetings organized by the faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.
The internal turmoil escalated after 58 legislators reportedly aligned with the rebel group and supported Ritabrata Banerjee, an expelled MLA, as the leader of the opposition following their takeover of the party’s legislative wing.

Sources indicate that senior TMC leaders are simultaneously engaged in efforts to persuade dissatisfied legislators to remain with the party and prevent additional departures.
The situation represents an unprecedented challenge for Mamata Banerjee, who has long maintained a firm grip over the organization and personally nurtured many of the leaders now being courted by rival factions.
Political observers describe the crisis as one of the most significant moments in the party’s history, coming in the aftermath of a major electoral setback and amid growing questions about the future direction of the organization.
The TMC leadership is expected to intensify its outreach efforts in the coming days as it seeks to stabilize the party and rebuild confidence among its legislators and grassroots workers.
Meanwhile, the rebel camp continues to assert its influence within the legislative arena, setting the stage for a potentially prolonged political battle over control of the party’s future.
