A criminal accused in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, a former associate of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has surrendered before a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district. The development comes as the CBI continues its investigation into the high-profile murder case.
A history-sheeter wanted in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, a former associate of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, surrendered before a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district on Thursday, officials said.
The accused, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, also known as Monu, appeared before a Gangsters Act court in connection with an older criminal case. Following his surrender, the court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody and ordered his transfer to the district jail in Mau.
According to officials, Singh is a known history-sheeter and faces a dozen criminal cases. He is also wanted in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, which is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Vansh Bahadur Singh confirmed that the accused is facing multiple criminal charges and is among those being pursued in the Rath murder investigation.
The surrender comes amid ongoing search operations and investigative activities being conducted by the CBI in relation to the case. The agency has been probing the circumstances surrounding Rath’s murder and examining possible links and motives behind the crime.
Chandranath Rath was known to have been associated with Suvendu Adhikari in the past, making the case one of significant public and political interest. However, investigators have not yet publicly disclosed details regarding the progress of the probe or the specific allegations against the accused.
The surrender of Singh is expected to provide investigators an opportunity to question him in connection with the case and potentially gather further information relevant to the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional legal and investigative steps may follow as the CBI continues its efforts to establish the full sequence of events surrounding the murder.
