Traffic Snarls on Diamond Harbour Road After Tanker Leak Scare
Traffic movement on the busy Taratala flyover in south Kolkata was briefly suspended on Tuesday morning after a CNG tanker developed a leak. Authorities swiftly initiated safety measures, including closing the flyover and deploying emergency services to prevent any untoward incident.
Traffic on the Taratala flyover in south Kolkata came to a temporary standstill on Tuesday morning after a leak was detected in a compressed natural gas (CNG) tanker, prompting immediate precautionary measures by authorities.
According to police officials, the leak was reported at around 7:55 am while the tanker was travelling across the flyover. Given the potential safety risks associated with gas leakage, authorities quickly suspended vehicular movement on the flyover to prevent any accident or hazardous situation.
The temporary closure resulted in traffic congestion along the crucial Diamond Harbour Road corridor, one of the city’s major arterial routes connecting several parts of Kolkata. Commuters experienced delays as vehicles were diverted and traffic management measures were implemented.
A fire engine was promptly deployed to the location to assist in emergency response efforts and ensure that the situation remained under control. Emergency personnel monitored the tanker and worked to address the leak safely.
Police officials stated that the suspension of traffic was purely a precautionary step aimed at safeguarding commuters and nearby residents. Authorities coordinated with emergency services to assess the extent of the leak and restore normal conditions as quickly as possible.
The incident once again highlighted the importance of stringent safety protocols for the transportation of hazardous and flammable materials through densely populated urban areas. Traffic movement was expected to resume after officials completed safety checks and confirmed that the threat had been neutralized.
Further details regarding the cause of the leak and the condition of the tanker are awaited.
