Political Debate Intensifies Ahead of June 21 NEET-UG Re-Examination
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken direct responsibility for ensuring the smooth conduct of the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination. Singh argued that any future irregularity, including a paper leak, would raise serious questions about accountability at the highest level of government.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday launched a fresh attack on the Centre over the handling of the NEET-UG examination controversy, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has effectively taken direct responsibility for ensuring the successful conduct of the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21.
Singh, who serves as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, referred to remarks reportedly made by the Solicitor General during court proceedings concerning the examination process. Based on those observations, he claimed that the Prime Minister had assumed responsibility for ensuring that the re-test is conducted without any irregularities.
The Congress leader argued that if another examination leak or major procedural lapse were to occur during the upcoming re-exam, questions of accountability would extend to the highest levels of government. He contended that such a scenario would intensify demands for political responsibility over the handling of the examination system.

While discussing the matter, Singh also highlighted parliamentary conventions governing standing committees. He noted that committee members are restricted from publicly discussing internal deliberations or decisions before reports are formally presented in Parliament. According to him, violating these norms could amount to a breach of parliamentary privilege.
The remarks come amid continuing political debate over examination integrity, transparency in recruitment and entrance tests, and measures being taken by authorities to restore public confidence in the NEET-UG process.
The NEET-UG examination is one of India’s largest entrance tests for medical education and has been the subject of intense scrutiny following allegations of irregularities. The upcoming re-examination is expected to be closely monitored by students, parents, policymakers, and educational institutions across the country.
As political exchanges continue, the focus remains on ensuring a secure and transparent examination process that safeguards the interests of lakhs of aspiring medical students.
