Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday claimed that he sustained head injuries after being mobbed outside a police station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district.

According to Banerjee, the incident occurred when he visited the police station to submit a memorandum protesting the arrest of several Trinamool Congress workers following the recently concluded Assembly elections.

The TMC leader alleged that supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were responsible for the attack and the resulting injuries.

Protest Over Arrest of Party Workers

Banerjee said he had gone to the police station to raise concerns regarding the detention of party workers in the aftermath of the state elections. During the visit, a crowd allegedly gathered, leading to a confrontation.

The MP claimed that he suffered injuries to his head during the incident and accused political opponents of orchestrating the disturbance.

Political Tensions Continue

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal following the Assembly elections.

Notably, the incident occurred a day after Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly roughed up by locals during a visit to Sonarpur, where he had gone to meet families affected by post-poll violence.

The back-to-back incidents have added to the political friction between the ruling TMC and the BJP in the state.

Investigation Expected

Police have not yet released a detailed statement on the allegations. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any legal action is warranted.

The episode is likely to intensify the political debate over post-election violence and law-and-order issues in West Bengal.
