Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome late last night on an official visit focused on expanding India-Italy strategic and economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.

Following his arrival, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hosted a dinner in honour of Prime Minister Modi. Later, the Indian Prime Minister reached the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, where members of the Indian diaspora gave him a warm and enthusiastic welcome.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening India-Italy relations across sectors including trade, connectivity, technology, strategic cooperation, and investment.

One of the major agenda items during the visit will be enhancing cooperation related to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which aims to improve trade and connectivity between India, the Middle East, and Europe.

The leaders are also expected to review progress under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 aimed at expanding long-term bilateral engagement between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi will additionally visit the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where he is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and global food security initiatives.

The visit is being viewed as an important step in deepening India’s engagement with European partners amid evolving global economic and geopolitical dynamics.
