Restoration Work Continues After Train Coaches Derail in Rishikesh Yard

Three coaches of Train No. 14317 Ujjaini Express derailed during a shunting movement in the railway yard near Khand Gaon in Rishikesh, railway officials said.

According to the Moradabad Division of Northern Railway, the train was completely empty when the incident occurred, and no injuries or casualties were reported.

The derailment took place near Yog Nagari Railway Station on Monday night at around 9:30 pm. Soon after the incident, railway authorities initiated rescue and restoration operations at the site. Teams worked throughout the night and into the morning to clear the affected tracks and restore normal rail movement.

Officials stated that cranes and heavy machinery were deployed to remove the three badly damaged coaches that had gone off the tracks. Restoration personnel continued efforts to normalize operations in the railway yard.

Preliminary findings indicate that a possible brake failure during routine maintenance may have contributed to the accident. However, railway authorities said the exact cause of the derailment has not yet been confirmed.

Following the incident, a large number of people gathered near the railway tracks. Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) later cleared the crowd and secured the area.

An official investigation has been launched to determine the precise circumstances that led to the derailment. Railway officials are expected to submit a detailed technical report after examining the damaged coaches and maintenance records.
