Global Leaders Gather for Discussions on Governance Reform, Cooperation and Sustainability

A two-day meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers will begin today in New Delhi under the chairmanship of S. Jaishankar.

Foreign ministers and heads of delegation from BRICS member and partner countries are participating in the high-level meeting and are also scheduled to call on Narendra Modi during their visit.

According to officials, the first day of the meeting will focus on discussions among BRICS member countries regarding major global and regional developments of mutual interest. Diplomats are expected to deliberate on geopolitical tensions, multilateral cooperation, economic coordination, and emerging international challenges.

On the second day, BRICS member and partner nations will participate in a session themed “BRICS@20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. Another key session will focus on “Reforms of Global Governance and Multilateral System”, reflecting the bloc’s continued push for greater representation and reforms in global institutions.

The last BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025, chaired by India in its role as incoming BRICS Chair for 2026.

Several global leaders and ministers have already arrived in the national capital ahead of the meeting. Among them are Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, and Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang.

Also attending are Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan and UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar.

The meeting is expected to further strengthen cooperation among BRICS nations and partner countries amid evolving global political and economic dynamics.
