Pakistan Clears Donkey Meat Exports to China After Firm’s Warning
Decision follows delays in Gwadar project approvals; PMO intervenes to ease concerns
Pakistan has approved the export of donkey meat to China following intervention by the Prime Minister’s Office after a Chinese firm warned it may shut down operations.
The issue involved Hangeng Trade Company, which operates in Gwadar—a key hub under China-backed infrastructure initiatives. The company had faced prolonged delays in export approvals, raising concerns over bureaucratic hurdles affecting foreign investments.
Officials said the clearance aims to facilitate trade continuity and reassure investors involved in bilateral projects between the two countries.
The development comes amid expectations of high-level diplomatic engagement, including a potential visit by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China.
The move highlights efforts by Pakistan to maintain investor confidence and strengthen economic ties with China, particularly in strategically significant regions like Gwadar.
