Congress Demands Rollback of ₹10,000 Haj Airfare Hike
Opposition cites rising costs; Centre says increase limited despite global fuel surge
The Indian National Congress has demanded the withdrawal of a recent airfare hike announced by the Haj Committee of India, which increases the cost of Haj travel by ₹10,000 per pilgrim.
The opposition alleged that under the current government led by Narendra Modi, the overall cost of performing Haj has risen significantly, making it difficult for ordinary families to afford the pilgrimage.
The airfare increase has been attributed to a sharp global rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. However, the Centre has defended the decision, stating that the hike has been kept minimal through negotiations despite global cost pressures.

The issue has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders calling the increase unjust, while the government maintains that it reflects unavoidable international price trends.
