LoP warns of further fuel price increases; criticises ₹993 jump in commercial LPG rates

The Indian National Congress on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the recent hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices, with senior leader Rahul Gandhi calling it an “election bill.”

Reacting to the ₹993 increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, Gandhi said the move represents the steepest single-day hike and warned that further increases in fuel prices could follow.

“Today, commercial gas cylinders have become ₹993 more expensive. This marks the single largest hike in a single day. This is an election bill,” he said in a post on X.

The Leader of Opposition also cautioned that petrol and diesel prices could be the next to rise, reiterating his earlier warning that inflationary pressures would intensify after elections.

The criticism comes amid a broader political debate over rising fuel costs and their impact on businesses and consumers, with opposition parties targeting the government’s pricing policies.
