EC Releases Fresh Voter Enrolment Figures for Bengal Polls

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has released fresh voter enrolment figures showing that nearly five lakh new voters have been added since the publication of the draft electoral list up to the close of nominations.

Officials said around seven lakh applications were received through Form-6, and after verification, eligible applicants were included in the rolls. On February 28, when the final list was published, 1,88,207 new voters were added, followed by another five lakh additions in the subsequent month.

District-level data showed the highest growth in North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, and East Midnapore. North 24 Parganas recorded more than 71,000 new voters, while Kolkata added nearly 44,000.

According to the latest figures, West Bengal now has a total electorate of 6,82,51,008. This includes over 3.49 crore male voters, just above 3.33 crore female voters, and 1,257 registered under the third gender category. Officials added that the numbers may increase further after pending tribunal cases are resolved.
