Naga Students’ Federation Objects to Revised National Song Directive
The Naga Students’ Federation has asked its affiliated bodies to prevent schools from sending students to Independence Day programmes where the full version of Vande Mataram is required to be sung, citing concerns over secular principles.
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has asked schools in Nagaland not to send students to Independence Day programmes where they are required to sing the full version of Vande Mataram, the National Song.
The influential students’ organisation said the complete version of the National Song was not in keeping with the secular principles of the country.
The NSF has directed its federating units and subordinate bodies to ensure that educational institutions do not send students to Independence Day programmes until the order mandating the singing of the revised National Song is revoked.
The organisation’s directive comes in response to the requirement concerning the singing of the revised version of Vande Mataram at Independence Day-related programmes.
The NSF’s position has placed the organisation at odds with the directive requiring the revised National Song to be performed at such programmes, with the students’ body calling for the order to be withdrawn.
