Re-NEET UG 2026: Longer Duration and Improved Design for Students
In a move aimed at improving the examination experience, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the duration of Re-NEET UG 2026 by 15 minutes and introduced several candidate-centric modifications, including additional rough-work space and a redesigned question booklet layout to enhance comfort and accessibility.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a series of candidate-friendly measures for the upcoming Re-NEET UG 2026, including an extension of the examination duration by 15 minutes.
According to the agency, the examination window has been increased from 180 minutes to 195 minutes for the test scheduled to be held on June 21. The revised timing for the examination will now be 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.
The NTA clarified that the additional 15 minutes are intended to accommodate mandatory examination formalities such as the signing of attendance sheets and other invigilation procedures, allowing candidates to utilise the full allotted time for answering questions without unnecessary pressure.
In an official statement, the agency reiterated its commitment to conducting NEET (UG)-2026 in a manner that is fair, secure, and responsive to the needs of candidates. It noted that the latest changes were introduced after considering feedback received from aspirants over several years.
One of the significant modifications relates to rough-work space. The number of pages provided for calculations, notes, and diagrams in the question paper booklet has been increased from two pages to four, enabling students to manage their work more effectively during the examination.
The NTA has also redesigned the booklet layout after receiving feedback that the previous format posed difficulties for some candidates, particularly left-handed students. Under the revised arrangement, two rough-work pages will be placed immediately after the instructions at the beginning of the booklet, while the remaining two pages will continue to appear at the end.
The updated design will be implemented across both English and regional language versions of the question paper to ensure a uniform and comfortable experience for all candidates.
Highlighting the rationale behind these changes, the agency stated that even seemingly small improvements in examination design can significantly enhance the experience of students appearing for high-stakes tests.
The NTA further advised candidates to carefully read the instructions mentioned in their admit cards and the information bulletin, and to cooperate with examination staff to facilitate the smooth and secure conduct of the examination.
These measures, the agency said, reflect its continued efforts to balance candidate comfort with the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and examination integrity.
