MEA Issues Urgent ‘Shelter-in-Place’ Advisory for Indians in Iran

NEW DELHI: In response to the “rapidly evolving and volatile” situation in West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a fresh advisory for all Indian nationals currently in Iran. The government has urged Indians to “stay put where they are, shelter in place, and avoid all non-essential movement.”

This advisory comes despite the 14-day ceasefire, as the MEA remains concerned about the possibility of rogue missile strikes or civil unrest in major Iranian cities.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is also scheduled to hold a crucial meeting today with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Khalilur Rahman, in New Delhi. While the focus remains on resetting ties with Dhaka, the West Asia crisis is expected to dominate the strategic discussions.

The MEA is reportedly coordinating with Indian embassies across the Gulf to ensure the safety of the millions of expatriates who have been living under the shadow of war for the past five weeks.
