India and Vietnam Boost Cooperation in Technology, Healthcare and Security

India and Vietnam have agreed to deepen cooperation across trade, investment, technology, healthcare, and defence sectors following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Vietnamese President To Lam in New Delhi.

Briefing the media after the discussions, P Kumaran said the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and global developments of mutual concern.

Both nations agreed to strengthen cooperation between governments and businesses to enhance two-way trade, investment flows and technological collaboration. The two sides also decided to facilitate better market access for agricultural products and work towards improving the regulatory environment to support smoother business operations and standards compliance for companies from both countries.

Recognising the growing strength of India’s pharmaceutical sector, the leaders discussed opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical companies to participate in the procurement of medicines for Vietnamese public healthcare facilities beginning in 2027.

The discussions also focused on expanding cooperation in research, knowledge sharing and institutional partnerships across sectors. Officials said both countries are keen to promote innovation and strengthen long-term strategic engagement.

Defence and security cooperation remained a major focus during the talks, with both leaders reaffirming that the sector continues to be a key pillar of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two sides agreed to further enhance defence systems procurement and strengthen security collaboration.

India and Vietnam also decided to intensify cooperation in legal and judicial areas through the implementation of the existing memorandum of understanding between India’s Ministry of Law and Justice and Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice.

Officials noted that the leaders expressed confidence that stronger India-Vietnam ties would deliver mutual economic and strategic benefits while contributing to broader regional stability and development goals.
